Welcome to JonTwitchell.com

Jonathan TwitchellWelcome to my new website, a growing collection of random thoughts, articles, stories, sermons, devotionals, product reviews, news commentary, and more.

This project was inspired by the realization that I had lots of writings scattered all over the internet--sermons at my church website, devotionals on a youth website, fiction on a fiction website, sermon preparation thoughts on a blog, etc.  I thought, "wouldn't it be nice to consolidate all that stuff at a single location and sort it accordingly?"

It's my prayer that these writings will inspire you to walk closer with God each day.  Whether you are a pastor looking for a different perspective in your sermon preparation, or a layperson looking for a different sort of devotional material, I hope you'll find these resources useful.

A Good Friday Meditation on Psalm 22
This is designed to be read aloud by two readers, one who reads the Psalm, and the other who reads the text from the Gospels. Please note that the Gospel lessons don't move in chronological order, but are determined by the order of the Psalm.

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from the words of my groaning?

2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
by night, and am not silent.

Matthew 27:45 From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. 46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx

Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx: Handheld GPS ReceiverI have this great little GPSr on loan for a couple of weeks so I can test it out, install some maps, and learn how to use it.  It lists around $590, but is available at Amazon for only $250.41.  The first thing I noticed was its size.  The GPSMAP series is significantly larger than the eTrex series.  However, because this particular unit floats, it also seems lighter.  The strap that comes with it seems to be an odd size--it's too short to hang on your neck, but too long to be of much use on your wrist.  However, I found that by doubling it up, it would fit on my wrist--loosely enough to be comfortable, but snugly enough to catch the unit if I dropped it.

However, that's my only complaint!

Kerygma is the Greek word for "teaching."  On this section of the site, you will find a collection of devotionals, sermons, devotional fiction, and some of my "first thoughts" as I look at a passage of scripture.

We may not always like what we see in the news, but we can often learn from it.  This section contains my attempts at providing commentary on news and current events from a faith-based perspective.

Whenever a book, movie, or product seems particularly useful (or particularly bad), I'll write up a review and post it here.  Browse around to see what sort of things you might discover that would be useful to you!

Well, as you can guess from the title, this is where I put any random thoughts that don't seem to fit anywhere else.  Reader beware--you never know what you might find!
